med neb albuterol/ativan q4 & prn

Now that's what I'm talkin about!!!!

I went and checked the chart, and yes, that is what the doctor ordered!!!

What do you think, a Freudian slip? a really cool doctor? a fibro patient?

I forget how difficult your job can be. Usually, I see you bringing
in the same thing, chest pain, sob, drunks....

But the kid you brought us looked so horrific. MVA. The other two
people in the car were pronounced on the scene. We worked this kid for
over an hour and he didn't survive either.

Hearing you describe the scene was almost unbearable. I can't even
comprehend what you actually saw.

Thank you for all that you do. You are very much appreciated.

Most embarassed patient of the day

A retired firefighter was cooking. He was reaching overhead where he
stored his knives. Yes, that's correct, he stores his knives up on a
high shelf.

He came to us by ambulance. Blood was everywhere. The knife landed
right below his clavicle. He also takes coumadin. So, getting the
bleeding to stop was challenging. He will be going to surgery to
repair the wound. Luckily, there was no pneumo.

And, yes, he knew better.

When its your time...

I got a call saying a man was coming in already intubated. So, I went
and set up a vent in er5.

This 80ish man was biba & an anesthesiologist. He was at a local
surgery center getting some sort of dialysis shunt. He wasnt doing
well after the procedure, so the anesthesiologist reintubated him and
came with the patient in the ambulance. Wow.

We gave him some narcan and some time. He was extubated and sent home
a few hours later. He told us how hungry he was and wanted to go out
to eat before he got home. His nurse said he should take it easy, get
take out, and go home.

Fast forward two hours, I get a call that a full arrest is coming in.
Yep, you guessed it, same guy. He collapsed right when they got home,
in the driveway. I took over compressions, checked the monitor and
nothing. Dr F & his previous nurse are freaking out. The were feeling
so horrible.

We coded this guy forever and finally got a rhythm.

So far this guy tried to die twice in one day. But no, we dont let
people die peacefully. We have to break their ribs, and torture them
with painful procedures.

I heard he died the next day during dialysis.

When its your time, its your time, no matter what we try to do.

What the hell is a fomite?

We are expecting a visit from CMS any day now. It seems that our last
visit didn't go so well. The hospital has been buzzing this week with
suits trying to get us ready. So, guess what my task was yesterday....

Not only did I have the er & pcu...during my down time I had to, get
this, PEEL THE OLD TAPE OFF THE WALLS. No, not in patient care areas,
but off the walls inside our department.

Beware of those fomites!!!
