I heart ABGs

I just wanted to brag. I got another ABG on the first try with...my
LEFT hand!

I only try on people who are out of it so they can't see how
uncomfortable I am.

But I do have to say that I am getting good at it!

Update - 35 weeks

Now this is what the mom really reported to the admitting nurse.

When she found out she was pregnant, she was smoking 5 packs a day...

really? Who has that kind of time? Aren't you supposed to be in
school? Who can afford $25/day for smokes?

...the clinic she went to told her not to stop cold turkey, so by the
time she delivered, she had stopped crystal meth, weed and was down to
1 pack a day.

Couldn't manage to stop smoking all together for the benefit of your
baby? Good thing you are thinking of your child and not yourself. Good
for you.

Sorry little baby.

Why I love southern california

On Monday, it was over 100 degrees. So hot that I took my kids to the
beach where it was a beautiful 80 degrees.

On Thursday, it rained, hailed and tornados. In May?!?! In So Cal?!?!

don't see this too often.

To the mommy of the 35 weeker born today...

The reason your baby is having trouble breathing, is septic with a low
birth weight...really? You are really asking that?

Maybe its because you smoke 4 packs a day.

Helpful hint for the day

We got called to the er stat. Coming in code 3 was a 20ish male.
That's all we were told.

Next update; GI bleed. Eeewww! 20 yrs old?!?! Wow!!!

Next update; not intubated, so we set up to intubate.

Paramedics bring in a 50-something male. Posturing. She says she is
having a hard time bagging. We transfer him over, he is wet, arms
stiff across his chest while we hear the real story.

57/m working on some electrical unit at a gas station. Found down in
a PUDDLE OF WATER. They got to him and was vomiting dark, like a GI
bleed. They also said he was acting like a head bleed.

After a ton of succs and etomidate, he is intubated, stabalized and
off to CT scan.

So, todays helpful hint is...

Water & electricity don't mix!!

Dare I say it???

Im bored. This hospital has been so damn slow the past two days. I
have had er both days. Ready to hear what I have done in there???

3 breathing treatments on a 3 yr old kiddo who actually needed it, 1
RSV swab which turned out negative, and, oh yeah, nothing else.

No abgs, no bipaps, no useless tx on chfrs. No full arrests. Nothing.

There, I said it, now bring it on. I'm ready to run so the next 4 hrs
will fly by.
